An Act to Protect Public Health and the Environment by Providing for a System of Shared Responsibility for the Safe Collection of Electronic Waste (2004)

Televisions and computer monitors contain lead, cadmium, and mercury, toxic materials that pose a threat to our environment and to human health. As technology improves and electronic equipment become obsolete, discarded devices mount up, and the hazardous substances in them can end up in our air and groundwater. LD #1892 broke ground by setting up a system for the responsible disposal of used TV’s and computers, and requiring manufacturers to bear some of the cost.
